What We Believe

God gave us brains for a reason

Wesley is a ministry of the United Methodist Church - a denomination that has no set doctrine. We believe that individuals should be allowed to think for themselves, in a context where they can listen to God and to each other.

If you're looking for a group that has "The Truth", you'll want to head elsewhere - there are many other groups on campus that are willing to share their Truth with you. But if you're looking for a group that is seeking "The Truth", Wesley is the place for you.

That being said, most (not all) of the people who participate at Wesley agree on the following:
God exists.
God created the universe (most of us think this happened around 3.7 billion years ago).
God's fundamental attitude towards people is best described by the word "love".
Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ - the one through whom we experience God.

Many of us have much more specific beliefs, of course. Preaching during worship is based in the Bible, interpreted through the mainstream Protestant tradition.
